Farmington SectionalSaturday, October 20 2018
The Prairie Central cross country team took part in the very tough Farmington regional this morning. The varsity girls placed 6th overall in the meet and advanced to the Elmwood Sectional next Saturday. The girls were led up front by the duo of Becca Conlisk in 23rd(20:28) and Jadyn Stephens in 24th(20:32). Stephens led the Hawks for most of the race, but Conlisk was able to put together a very strong last 400 meters to lead the way. Finishing in the 3rd spot for the Hawks was Lexi Zimmerman in 43rd(21:30). Lexi was also able to put together a very strong last mile to help the Hawks advance. Rounding out the rest of the varsity runners was Tanya Fehr in 47th(21:40), Anna Hale in 66th(23:44), Vivian Walter in 72nd(24:18), and Heidi Meister in 76th(25:39). Going into the race the girls knew it was going to be tough to score high in the meet. Their goal was to get at least 6th and that is exactly what they did. The top five places in the meet(and their state rankings) were #2 Eureka, #9 Olympia, #11 El Paso-Gridley, #18 Tremont, and #22 Central Catholic.
The varsity boys placed 12th in the meet, but it was not good enough to land them in the sectional next weekend. They knew what they were up against and still gave it everything they had. The varsity boys ran with great poise and strength, as they had their best team race of the season. Their 45-second split between their #1 and #5 runners was by far the best of the year. Leading the way for the Hawks was the pair of Aaron Aberle in 18:13 and Ian Pick in 18:21. These two paced the rest of the team throughout the race. They were followed by Logan Goad in 18:31, Caleb Embry in 18:36, and Adrien Ruiz in 18:58. Also finishing in the race was Matthew Huisman in 19:27 and Collin Fogarty in 19:44. Huisman and Ruiz both ran their last official races today. They have been great leaders for the rest of the team and have a lot to be proud of.
